FabrĆcio Werdum shocked the world with a triangle chock submission win over the until then (nearly) undefeated Fedor Emelianenko. Since then the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert has been teaching seminars which have grown in number thanks to the aura that the win over Emelianenko has provided.
āEverything has changed for better for me. That was very importantā Werdum told SL Forum in Brazil.
āIāve gotten over 30 phone calls a day in my gym after the win, more students have come, the seminar value went up. Itās like at any other profession, a singer, soccer player, as you develop and get the spotlight the value changesā.
āVai Cavaloā Werdum has sustained an elbow injury that prevents him stretching his arm and the heavyweight changed his mind to give Fedor an immediate rematch in order to rest for a while to heal up. His return is probably going to happen in 2011 due the recovery time .
āAfter the seminars I will undergo surgery on my elbow that I have put off for some time. Weāre in July and I only want to come back 100% recovered. I think itās hard to make it this year due the physical therapy, conditioning and all else. I might get back next year.ā
With FabrĆcio Werdum out, a long-term expected fight among Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem and Fedor Emelianenko is open to take place in 2010. The Russian stated he plans to perform the last bout of the current contract in September or October.
